As to the original question, to add to what I said before--that I suspect we've been living through the chastisement predicted in the second secret for a while--I'd also refer to the vision of Pope Leo XIII. In 1884, he had his vision where the devil said he could destroy the Church in 100 years if given more influence over priests and religious. It's not too hard to see the events of the last century in that.
